Scenarios

This section makes a case for the use of scenarios. Often, most stakeholders are non technical and have a more difficult time visualizing a system through the major diagrams. A scenario is used to describe a system transaction with pictures that look like the real system in operation. It is most often used to illustrate the system's user interface for principal use cases. A scenario is equivalent to a movie maker's storyboard.

Technically each scenario describes one path through the FSM associated with the system.

It would take many scenarios to describe all possible paths. This would not be practical or very instructive. We pick scenarios that hit the system highlights.

Scenarios help stakeholders visualize a system's behavior even before prototypes can be developed.

In the event that the System Engineer has a rapid prototyping environment then the prototype becomes the scenario player.
